CJ CGV has signed a deal with Cineworld, the world’s second-largest cinema chain, to open 100 more ScreenX locations across the world, Korea’s largest cinema chain said Thursday. The deal was signed at the CineEurope 2018 event in Barcelona, Spain, on Wednesday. Developed with Korean technology in 2012, the immersive screening system delivers a 270-degree experience by using two side screens in addition to the cinema’s existing main screen. Currently, there are 142 ScreenX theaters worldwide. The deal will install 100 more theaters in the United States, Britain, Israel and in seven European countries, according to the CJ CGV. London-based Cineworld Group took over the U.S. Regal Entertainment Group last year to become the world’s second-largest cinema chain. It currently has 9,538 screens across 793 sites in 10 countries.
