I think this swedish food may be a little bit similar to Gwamegi, Korean local food. Because, these dishes are basically made of fermented herring.
Only difference between them is Gwamegi is dried and fermented outside as Surstromming is fermented in a can.
I've ever tried Gwamegi and I enjoyed it. But as for surstromming, frankly it doesn't look t very yummy in terms of texture and colors when I see them on Youtube.
