-등위접속사

 

‘FANBOYS’

⇒ For(이유), And(그리고), Nor(~도 아니다), But(그러나), Or(또는), Yet(그러나), So(결과)

 

1)등위접속사의 역할: 단어, 구, 절 연결→ ANBOY(for/so는 절과 절만 연결)

2)등위접속사의 위치: S+V,_____S+V→ 문장 중간에 위치

3)앞 문장과 동일한 주어 및 조동사 생략 가능

S+V_____V→ ANBOY

 

Students need to be diligent and responsible.

John usually spends his free time reading or exercising.

We must clean the house, for my parents are visiting this evening.

 

- 숙어 표현(등위접속사+부사)

① and so/and therefore: 그래서

② and then: 그러고 나서

③ and yet: 그런데도

④ or else: 그렇지 않으면

 

I dislike large cities and yet I live in Los Angeles.

 

- 등위접속사는 문맥에 맞는 것을 선택

I ordered a wooden bed (but, and) a soft mattress.

James wants to travel to Italy, (so, but, yet) Sarah insists on going to Mexico.

 

- and로 연결되면 복수동사, or는 마지막 주어에 수를 일치

Ms. Jenkins and her client are meeting for lunch.

I think that the department heads or the CEO is going to make the announcement.

 

-상관접속사

 

① both A and B

② either A or B

③ neither A nor B

④ not A but B(=B but not A)

⑤ not only A but also B(=B as well as A)

① 짝꿍 찾기

② 수일치(B에 일치)

예외)both A and B 복수

③ A=B(품사)

④ not only 뒤에 주어 동사 도치

 

① Bothe A (or/nor/and/but) B

② Either I or she (is/are/am)

③ Both friendly and (attractive/attractively)

④ Not only did he (know/knows/knew/known),

Not only has he (know/know/knew/known),

 

- 상관접속사는 맞는 짝끼리 쓰여야 한다.

Your jacket is either in your room (and, or) on the coat rack next to the bookshelf.

Sarah (either, neither) plays a musical instrument nor sings.

 

- 상관접속사로 연결된 주어와 동사의 수일치:

‘and’로 연결되면 복수취급, ‘or’는 뒤에 나오는 명사에 수를 일치

Either French fries or baked potato is served with the entree.

Both Brazil and Venezuela are located in South America.

① enroll: 등록하다, 명부에 올리다

enroll in=sign up for=register for: ~에 등록하다

 

② subscribe: 구독하다

subscribe to: 신문․잡지 등을 구독하다

ex)subscribe to periodicals: 정기간행물 구독

 

③ apply: 지원하다

-apply for: ~에 지원하다

-apply to: 적용하다

-apply: 바르다

ex)apply the cream evenly over the skin

 

④ register: 등록하다

register for: ~에 등록하다

 

2)postpone:reschedule

 

① postpone: 연기하다, 뒤로 미루다

-delay와 의미가 같다.

-동의어: defer=put off=push back=adjourn

 

② reschedule: 일정을 변경하다, 다시 세우다

원래 일어나기로 되어 있던 일의 시간을 바꾸는 것을 의미

make an alternate arrangement

 

3)affect:effect

 

① affect: (사람․사물에)영향을 미치다

 

② effect: (변화 등을)초래하다

-결과: cause and effect(=consequence)

-영향: have an effect on(=influence)

-효력: go into effect(=be valid)

-효과: special effect

-소지품: personal effects(=belongings)
