▶전치사(preposition)
“명사구”앞에 온다.

▶전치사구
“전치사는 명사구 앞에 쓰이는 단어”
=전치사+명사구=전치사구=전명구
-명사=주어, 목적어
-전치사구=수식어

The man in the conference room is Mr. Adams.
The celebration finished at midnight.
1. 전치사 자리
1)명사 앞
I bought the coffee maker in January.
2)대명사 앞

2. 시간 전치사
1)at, on, in

4. 방향 전치사

2)across, through, along
(1)across: ~를 가로질러
(2)through: ~를 통해

같은 전치사라도 쓰임새가 여러 가지라서 많이 헷갈린다. 예를 들어 전치사 ‘in’ 뒤에는 장소가 올수도 있고 시간이 올수도 있기 때문에 늘 주의해야한다. 이건 외운다고 되는 것이 아니라 많은 문장을 접하면서 자연스럽게 익혀야 할 것 같다. 그러려면 평소에 영어로 된 신문이나 잡지 등을 읽는 버릇을 들이는 것이 좋을 것 같다. 억지로 생각해내지 않고 무의식적으로 전치사를 사용할 수 있을 정도가 될 때까지 말이다. 공부를 위한 영어가 아닌 생활을 위한 영어를 하다보면 어느 순간 토익점수도 높아질 것이다.
