♣ 비교 구문의 종류

Seoul is larger than Busan.

Seoul is the largest city in Korea.

♣ 비교급과 최상급을 만드는 방법

A train is faster than a bus.

Max is the most diligent worker in the office.

Her ideas are better than mine.

It was the worst food that I have ever eaten.

1. 비교급

♦ 형태: ‘비교급+than’

Plastics are (light, lighter) than metals.

She speaks (clearly, more clearly) than others.

♦ 비교급이 포함된 표현

1)the+비교급~, the+비교급~

“다다익선”

→ “The more, the merrier.”

“The more pizza I eat, the merrier I feel.”

The more you learn, (the wise, the wiser) you can become.

2)the+비교급+of the two

I have a 금도끼 and an 은도끼.

A 금도끼 is the more expensive of the two.

Patrick is (the tall, the taller) of the two.

3)비교급 than

A 금도끼 is more expensive than an 은도끼.

♦ 비교급 강조

much+비교급: 훨씬 더

far+비교급: 훨씬 더

even+비교급: 심지어 더

still+비교급: 그래도 더

2. 최상급

♦ 형태: ‘the+최상급+’

1)of~ (~중에 최고!)

2)in~ (~에서 최고!)

3)that절 (주어가 동사한 것 중 최고!)

☆ 혼동하지 말 것: of the two→ 비교급

He is the (more intelligent, most intelligent) student of all my classmates.

It is the (taller, tallest) building in the city.

This is the (more heavily, most heavily) researched article that I have ever read.

♦ 최상급이 포함된 표현

1)one of the 최상급+복수 명사

She is one of the (richer, richest) people in this town.

Our products are designed by one of the (better, best) designers.

2)the+서수+최상급

Yuna Kim is the best figure skater!

Subasaki is the second best figure skater!

John Bob is the third best figure skater!

Busan is the second (larger, largest) city in Korea.

☺비교급과 최상급은 외워야 할 것이 비교적 명확하게 제시되어 있어서 공부하기 편해요. 우선 비교급과 최상급의 형태를 알아야하고, 다음으로 비교급이나 최상급이 포함된 표현과 비교급과 최상급을 강조해주는 표현을 외워야 해요. 비교급이 포함된 표현에서 특히 주의해야 할 것은 ‘the+비교급~, the+비교급~’이나 ‘the+비교급+of the two’처럼 최상급이 아님에도 불구하고 비교급 앞에 ‘the’를 사용할 수 있다는 점이에요.
