명사절 접속사3: 의문사
의문대명사
who what which whose
->불완전한 문장
->+ to부정사
[What she mentioned] was interesting.
의문형용사
what which whose + 명사
->불완전한 문장
->N + to부정사
[What price you paid] is irrelevant.
의문부사
when where why how
->완전한 문장
->+ to부정사(단 why 제외)
I will notify you [when the repairs will be finished].
명사절 접속사4: 복합관계대명사
whoever whomever whatever whichever
문장에서 주어와 목적어로 쓰이며 대명사+관계대명사의 역할을 한다. 명사절 이외에 부사절로도 사용됨.
[Whoever painted the picture] is a terrific artist.
복합관계대명사+불완전한 문장
[whoever files acomplaint] will be contacted by a service representative.
what과 that의 구별
what절: 오직 명사절로만 사용된다.
It is easy to see what is best for the firm.
that절: 명사절, 형용사절, 부사절 모두 가능
what절과 that절이 명사절로 쓰일 때, what 다음에는 불완전한 절이 오고 that 다음에는 완전한 절이 온다.
The professor wants to figure out [what motivates sudents to learn].
[That she had entered the wrong building] was apparent.
