We usually believe that what we remember is what really happened, but it is not always true. First, we tend to remember pleasant memories but forget unpleasant ones. Second, we are often influenced by what we thought happened rather than what we actually saw. Third, what we remember is sometimes only something which we imagined. Thus it is possible for our memory to play various tricks on us.

The Green Revolution, which is the battle against hunger, has been one of the most import!!ant events of the twentieth century. Between 1945 and 1970, the world production of food crops went up 50%. The additional food helped feed people who had been starving because they couldn't grow enough crops. After World War II, scientists, mainly in Mexico, found ways to increase their crops. If these scientists had not started to work on the food shortage problem in1945, we might have been hungry now.

One day John came home crying. When his mother asked him why he was crying, he wouldn't tell the reason. So his mother took him to the kitchen and helped him to be relaxed. She gave him a glass of water and some juice. When she found that he was ready to answer, she asked again. Then he said that he had lost 20 dollars on his way home. Then she said, " John, you can't find the money you lost. It's useless to feel regret about a loss that can't be undone. So forget about it."

Many people think that money is the most import!!ant of all things. So they spend most of their time trying to earn money. Tom also spends almost his time trying to earn money. He realizes that others are trying to do the same. If this is true, how does he take hold of what others desire too? If wealth cannot be obtained by one way, other ways may be used. So Tom probably will lie and cheat others to get what he wants. Similarly others will cheat him.

What would you do if you are bullied? Will you fight against him? Here are somethings that you can use when you are bullied. For example, make friends- lots of them! Bullies can't stand groups of happy, smiling, friendly people. Tell your friends that you're being bullied. A bully is less likely to approach you if you're surrounded by your friends. Besides your friends could even say to the bully "We don't like the way you treat our friend," or, "we don't like the way you're acting. Stop it!"

Possible problems to computer systems may occur when calendars in computers go over to 2000 dates. Since many computers are programmed to recognize only the last two digits of a year, they may not be able to distinguish 2000 from 1900. This is called "Y2K" which is the reduced form for the year 2000. It is feared this will result in everything from minor problems of personal computers to a complete breakdown of systems governing power plants, banks, medical services and air travel.

It is often believed that two glasses of wine a day will reduce the risk of lung cancer by half. Recently some scientists found out that wine apparently has a cancer-protective effect. But they still could not know for sure whether specific substances in the wine prevent the development of cancer or because wine-lovers have healthier eating habits than beer and whisker drinkers. The reduced risks may be due to the fact that wine drinkers also tend to eat more fruit and vegetables, which are known to prevent cancer.

Our education is vital to our future and should be a top priority. But we must be careful not to let our grade take over our lives. School-centered teens often become so eager to get good grades that they forget that the real purpose of school is to learn. As thousands of teens have proved, you can do extremely well in school and still maintain healthy balance in life. Remember that our worth isn't measured by our grade.

It has been thought that birds sing about the glories of nature and of the morning sun. But scientists have picked a real hole in such romantic theories. The birds, they have found, are not singing at all; they are threatening one another. What the birds are saying could be roughly translated as," This is my territory! Invaders keep out!" In this way they defend their mates and an area in which they can hunt for food for their young. Every morning as the sun rises, the birds let their neighbors know that they're still there, still ready to defend their territories.

As the use of solar energy grows and is further investigated, more practical and effective applications of it will be developed. Although it is does not seem to have a negative effect on the environment, there is a possibility that the widespread use of solar energy might bring about some problems such as radical changes in industrial structure. However, at the present time, solar energy does not appear to be a promising energy in the future. People should also remember that once they have paid the price for the purchase and installation of solar energy devices, the sunlight is free.
