*단수 주어와 복수 주어

- 단수 주어: 앞에 a/an

- 복수 주어: 뒤에 (e)s

 

*단수 동사와 복수 동사

- 단수 동사: 3인칭 단수형

- 복수 동사: 동사 원형

 

 

 

1. 주어가 단수 가산명사일 때

The company / intends / to open a local branch.

 

2. 주어가 불가산 명사일 때

The furniture / arrives / fully assembled.

 

3. 주어가 '~하는 것'으로 해석되는 긴말 덩어리(동명사, to부정사, 명사절)일 때

Watching a soccer game / gets / me / excited.

That John will leave / is / shocking.

 

4. each/every + 단수 명사

Each house / has / two bedrooms.

Every employee / pays / income taxes.

 

 

 

1. 주어가 복수 가산명사일 때

The students / expect / the weather will be fine.

 

2. 주어가 '주어 and 주어'일 때

Jack and I / are taking / an accounting class.

 

3. several / many / a few + 복수 명사

Several books / are / on the desk.

Many workers / commute / to work / by bus.

A few machines / need / maintenance.

---> 사실 상 several, many, a few를 보지 않고 뒤에 복수 명사만 봐도 복수 동사를 골라낼 수 있음.

 

 

 

1. 주어와 동사 사이에 수식어가 온 경우

: 수식어는 주어와 동사의 수일치에 전혀 영향을 주지 않음.

 

Getting letters(주어가 동명사) / from my firends / makes(단수동사) / me / happy.

The paintings(복수) / at the museum / attract(복수동사) / many tourists.

 

2. 'most/all/some/half/the rest + of + the 명사'가 주어로 온 경우

: 실질적 주어는 most/all/some/half/the rest 이지만,

of the 뒤의 명사가 단수인지 복수인지를 파악해서 동사를 수일치 시킨다.

 

Most of the water(water는 불가산명사) / was dried up / in the lake.

Some of the firms(복수명사) / disagree / withe the policy.

The rest of the papers(복수명사) / are / in the drawer.

 

 

 

contact : v연락하다 n연락,접촉

---> in contact with : 연락이 계속 되고 있다.

 

conduct (특정한 활동을)하다, 수행하다

---> conduct a study/survey 형태로 많이 쓰인다.
